Sustainable things to do this year in the UAE

We don’t know about you guys, but here at TWAN we’re planning on making 2022 our greenest year yet. If you’re a UAE resident and looking for ways to be more eco-friendly in your daily life, look no further, as we’ve compiled this list of sustainable things to do this year in the UAE.

Swap your usual commute for a refreshing bike ride

Cycling has a whole range of pros: not only is it good for your physical and mental well-being, but it also has a positive effect on the environment as taking a bike rather then a car reduces the amount of carbon emissions you’re putting into the atmosphere. What’s not to love?

Abu Dhabi is home to a whole range of amazing cycle tracks, such as the scenic Al Wathba cycle track and the newly developed Hudayriat Island track. If you’re looking to just incorporate cycling into your daily journeys, the Careem bike app allows you to rent pedal-assisted bikes in Dubai. Bike stations are conveniently located all around the city, including at Dubai metro stations.

Take a trip to a wildlife sanctuary or reserve

Paying a visit to a sanctuary or reserve can be a great way to learn more about the amazing wildlife and habitats found in the UAE and what can be done to protect them. Here you can enjoy activities with reassurance they’re 100% eco-friendly, and even participate in the conservation of local wildlife.

A great example of this is the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, dedicated to the study and protection of the unique flora and fauna of the Arabian desert, where you can enjoy safaris and camel rides with no negative repercussions. Another great option is the Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary, a 6km stretch at the mouth of Dubai creek which is a safe home to 20,000 water birds. Our favourites are the beautiful pink and white flamingos!

Reduce your carbon footprint by shopping sustainably

One way to make a big difference in your life this year is to start shifting towards sustainable, ethically produced clothing as opposed to fast fashion brands. This is important as the apparel industry has one of the largest impacts on the planet, responsible for 8% of the worlds entire carbon emissions.

At TWAN, our central ethos revolves around creating sustainable clothing, without making you sacrifice comfort, quality or style. Everything from our certified sustainable fabrics, to our biodegradable packaging, to our pledge to plant 10 trees for every item sold, ensures that buying from TWAN is the best move you can make to combat global warming and deforestation caused by the fashion industry.
